Rainscreen — common questions

What is the difference between secret fix and a cassette system?

Both give a facade with no visible fixings. A secret fix panel hooks onto a rail and slides into place, so individual panels can be lifted out later for access or replacement. A cassette is a folded tray hung on a carrier system, which gives crisper returns and deeper shadow joints and generally suits larger panel sizes.

Cassette tends to read as more precise; secret fix tends to be easier to maintain. Tell us the elevation and we will talk it through.

What fire rating do these systems have?

The aluminium panels themselves are non-combustible and the current listings state A2-s1, d0. But a facade is a build-up, not a single product — the insulation, membranes, cavity barriers and fixings all count towards how the wall performs, and on many buildings the specification is set by regulation rather than preference.

Do not take the panel rating as the wall rating. Send us the build-up and we will confirm what applies.

What colours can I have?

Panels are powder coated to order, so effectively any RAL. Metallics, textures and anodised-effect finishes are available too. Because it is made to order, the colour is fixed at the point of ordering — worth getting a sample of the actual finish before committing on a large elevation.

Are these made to order?

Yes. Panel sizes, the carrier system and the finish are all specific to the job, so there is a lead time rather than a shelf. Ask us early — the design of the setting-out is usually the long pole, not the manufacture.
