Suspended Ceiling — common questions
How much acoustic panelling does a room actually need?
Less than people expect, but placed well. Covering something like 15–25% of the room's surface area is a common working range for an office or meeting room; beyond that you get diminishing returns and a room that starts to feel dead.
Position matters more than quantity — treating the first reflection points and the ceiling generally does more than covering a whole wall at the back.
What does NRC mean?
Noise Reduction Coefficient: a single number from 0 to 1 describing how much sound a material absorbs on average rather than reflecting. 0 reflects everything, 1 absorbs everything. An NRC of 0.85 means roughly 85% of the sound hitting it is absorbed.
It is an average across frequencies, so it is a good comparison tool between products but not a substitute for a proper acoustic design on a difficult room.
Will panels stop noise coming from the next room?
No — and this is the most common misunderstanding. Absorption controls echo and reverberation inside a room. Stopping sound passing between rooms is insulation, which is about mass and separation in the structure itself. Panels will make a room sound calmer; they will not make your neighbour quieter.
Can rafts be hung under an exposed soffit?
Yes, that is what they are for. Rafts hang flat below the structure on adjustable cables, so you cover a large area of ceiling for absorption while leaving the services above accessible — no full suspended ceiling, and the drop height is set on site.
Are these made to order?
The panels and rafts generally are, because size, colour and edge detail are specified per project. Send the room dimensions and what the problem sounds like and we will suggest a layout as well as a quantity.
