Internal Wall Panels — common questions
Do the panels arrive finished or do they need painting?
The MDF panels are supplied raw or with a two-coat spray primer, ready for your own top coat — which is deliberate, because the colour is usually the point of the wall. Veneered boards arrive with the timber face already on them and need only a clear finish.
How are they fixed to the wall?
Onto a flat, dry substrate — either bonded with a grab adhesive on a sound plastered wall, or screwed to battens where the wall is uneven. Battens are the safer choice on an older or solid wall, because a machined panel will telegraph every hollow behind it.
Can the joints be made invisible?
Yes, with care. Sheets are matched so the pattern continues across the joint, and the joint itself is filled and sanded flush before the top coat goes on. It is the filling and the lighting that decide whether it reads as one surface — plan where the sheet joints fall before you start, and avoid putting one in the middle of a grazing light.
Can these panels be used in a bathroom?
Moisture-resistant MDF handles a normally ventilated bathroom once it is properly sealed on all faces and edges, including the cut ones. It is not suitable inside a shower enclosure or anywhere it will be directly and repeatedly wetted — use a surface material there instead.
