Laser Cut Screens — common questions

Can I get a screen in a size that is not listed?

Yes. The listed sizes are the ones we hold as standard because they suit most gardens and courtyards, but panels are cut to order, so give us the opening dimensions and we will cut to them. Custom sizes are also the way to handle a run that has to divide evenly across a boundary.

Aluminium or corten — which should I choose?

Aluminium is powder coated, keeps its colour, weighs very little and stays exactly as delivered. Corten is uncoated weathering steel: it arrives mill grey and develops a russet patina over the first months, which is the whole reason to choose it.

One caution with corten — the runoff during that first year will stain porous surfaces underneath it, so keep it off pale paving and put gravel or a drainage detail below the panel.

How are screens fixed?

Usually into a slim frame or onto standoff fixings, either between posts or off a wall. What matters more than the fixing itself is wind loading: a screen is a sail, and a large panel in an exposed garden needs a subframe designed for it rather than four bolts into a fence post.

Will the pattern line up if I use several panels?

On a repeating geometric pattern, generally yes if the panels are the same size and set out from the same datum. Send us the run length and we will set the panel sizes so the pattern reads continuously rather than stopping awkwardly at the end.
